The return of... Leo Krupnik?
July 9, 2009

Does the name "Leo Krupnik" ring a bell? If you followed the team in 2002, it might... possibly. Krupnik was Metro's 6th round draft pick out of Cal, but failed to make the team. He spent the year in the PDL and then was signed by the MetroStars in August. Krupnik didn't play a single minute, and was released soon after the season.

Since then, he's spent four seasons in the Israeli league, most recently helping Maccabi Haifa to the championship. And now he's come a full circle, trying out with Metro, (Update: SoccerByIves reports that it's not a tryout; he has been signed and is now awaiting paperwork) on recommendation of Jeff Agoos' brother, who was one of Krupnik's coaches at Cal.

According to the NY Post, Mike Petke had the following to say to Krupnik at practice today: "Who the f**k do you think you are? Who am I? Who the f**k are you? Twenty f**king games without a win and first day this guy comes in here breaking my balls? F**k you!"

Welcome back to Metro, prodigal son!
